Power BI Group Managed Service Account

We're building a Power BI report that uses data store on an on-premises SQL server.

We've create a Group Managed Service Account for the SQL connection.

When we configure the connection in Power BI we can input the new gMSA username e.g. ZZ\xxxx_xxxx_xxxx$ however because it's a gMSA we don't have a password to enter . Consequently, the 'Create' button remains greyed out preventing us from creating the connection.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks, that would be great.

I am also interested in this solution, but for a SQL server in the cloud.

I'm afraid I gave up as we couldn't find a way to get this working.

Okay, I am working internally in my company to see if we can find anything. If we do, Ill reply here and let you know.

In my experience whenever a GMSA is used in a login UI where a password is mandatory, any password will do since MSA authentication doesn't actually utilise a supplied password. So just mash the keyboard and test it out.

Obviously this doesn't apply in every situation but hopefully it'll assist you here.

Thanks, that would be great.

while a positive expression and very enthusiastic - this is NOT a solution and shouldn't be marked as one ...as of this writing there is no solution in this thread.   For my own experiences we just ignored the 'test' of the credential and let the Data Connector be configured with our gMSA and blank password.  However it failed to refresh.  So we will be implementing a Service Account dedicated for this purpose and with a non-expiring password ...not as secure as a gMSA would be unfortunately.  Our gMSA is used with the On-Premises Gateway.  This is fairly straightforward to set up as far as gMSA account setup goes.

Hi, thanks for the links but I'm afraid they don't help.

We've managed to create the gMSA (which is the topic for the forst two links).

The third link gives guidance on using a gMSA for running the Gateway on a server which is different to using a gMSA for a SQL connection.
