Power BI Gateway setup

In Power BI Gateway setup, is it recommended to use one service account to access the different data sources? our gateways provide access to:

1. SQL Servers

2. On prem sharepoint

3. ADLS (using virtual network data gateways)

4. ODBC

My idea is to use one service account and grant it access to all these data sources.  It is simple, and easy to setup.  Are there any compelling reasons why not?

Thank you,

  • Hi. I would say it's ok to keep 4 sources in the same gateway. Unless you have some company policy regarding service accounts or security, then it's perfectly fine to keep it that way. Even if you need to increase performance you can build a cluster of gateways to improve the refreshes. That would still be a single gateway in a matter of saying.

Regarding the same exact account for all sources, I don't think that's necessary. Each source might have different account for securty purposes if they have different data sensitivity levels.

    I hope that helps,
