We are facing an issue where the Power BI On-premises Data Gateway is not registering log files.
In July, we configured a new gateway cluster.
I set the logs folder path on the gateway configuration file- C:\Program Files\On-premises data gateway\Microsoft.PowerBI.DataMovement.Pipeline.GatewayCore.dll.configto path to a D:\filepath drive location. Initially, logs were generated for one day, but after that, no further log files have been created.
When I export logs from the gateway application (using the Export Logs functionality), I do not see the following logs in the extract:
Query Execution
Query Aggregation
Query Streaming
To troubleshoot, I updated the configuration file again
C:\Program Files\On-premises data gateway\Microsoft.PowerBI.DataMovement.Pipeline.GatewayCore.dll.config
and set the log path to my local drive. After making this change, I restarted the gateway service as usual. However, the issue persists.
I also check the below paths to see if somehow the configuration was not affected but there is also no log files except the day I made the changes

I figured out the issue.. its about access on the custom folder path I was setting for the logs. Somehow when I tried to share the same folder with different user for my log refresh the NT Service\PBIGWuser was losing the access on the folder and the logs were not registering anymore. when I created a new folder and set the path it started registering the logs agai. but I still have to figure out how can I share that folderto other svc user on the system to set up a gateway connection for reporting.

Hi @sushovan93 ,
Newer gateway versions use age-based retention by default.
This means:
Logs rotate daily at 00:00 UTC
Max retention: 30 days.
Max total size: 5 GB.
Max file size: 100 MB
Refer -Configure log files for the on-premises data gateway | Microsoft Learn
If these thresholds are exceeded or misconfigured, logs may stop being generated.
You can also look under Applications and Service Logs>O-premises data gateway service for errors.

If still this doesnt work, I’d encourage you to submit your detailed issues via Microsoft's official feedback channels, such as the Issues - Microsoft Fabric Community

@tayloramy yes I have similar issue, even in the export log also I'm not seeing them. I have another cluster that I configured back in the days that works just fine, it's just the newer version. I have MS support ticket for this one also, but man they are slow and not giveing any updates. just said - "they have to reproduce this and this might be a BUG"
@sushovan93 That sounds about right, Microsft's support engineers are not known to be the fastest in the world, which is why this forum is so valuable to me, we can get quick answers from knowledgable users.
I will be opening a ticket about my logs issue on Monday I think, hopefully I will hear back. I am at a large enough org with a big enough microsoft contract that I have a customer success account manager who can help me esclate and speed up tickets, so I'll let you know what I find out.
I also have multiple gateways, some of which are fine, some of which are not. The confusing part is 4 of them were all installed at the same time, and of those 4, 1 works and 3 don't. Very confusing.
If this helped, consider giving some kudos. If I answered your question or helped solve your problem, mark this post as the solution to help futute forum users find it.
I've had similar problems with logs, specifically performance logs not being generated.
I posted a question about it here: On Prem Data Gateway Performance Logs - Microsoft Fabric Community
I wonder if there is a more widespread problem about logging not happening in general?
