Power BI Free Readers

Hi Community

we are having the situation that a Power BI Pro user is generating content. This content should be consumed by Power BI Free users within the same company, which are using some dropdowns and drilldowns to filter the view.

The free users are getting all the time the info that they should get licensed, even though I was thinking that by Pros generated content can be consumed by Free-users?

Thank you for the help

Alex

  • Hi Axylo

If you only have a Pro licence and share reports with others they need a Power BI licence to view the reports shared.

With a Pro licence, not backed by a Premium Capacity licence, only other Pro licence holders can view Reports shared with them.

When a Pro licence user publishes a Report to a Premium Capacity workspace, those Reports can be shared with others who have a Power BI Free licence.

The users with a Power BI free licence, are able to view Reports shared with them on a Premium Capacity workspace.

However if you don't have a Premium Capacity licence those Free licences cannot view Reports shared with them.

If you have a large number (>400) of users who need to view Reports it may be more cost effective to get a Premium Capacity licence that allows free licence holders to view Reports.

    Hope this helps
