Power BI Embedded Premium Capacity with Dashboard in teams

Hello,

I found several other questions to community, but the situation has been slightly different.

We have a SKU A1 premium capacity space (it's a power BI embedded space in the admin portal, site not allowing image attachement) that I have been using and have been "publishing" the dashboards into MS Teams sites using the Power BI App.

Until just recently, this was working just fine where I could distribute content to users with free license.  I have no issues with BI Pro license users.  In the past (~1-2 months ago), users could view content on teams without requiring license and would not even be prompted for pro license trial.  Now, users are not allowed to see content without pro license, they are just given a free trial and not even prompted to accept.  Other's who had a pro trial in the past that has expired, can no longer see any content.

Any suggestions on where to look next?  Not finding any answers in the below, it seems to work for the one individuals post just fine as of 6/1/2021.  Others solved but with no resolution given...

Thanks,
Mike

    All,

After discussion with MS it turns out that the premium space content that we had was actually the wrong license set up and should have never worked.  We are moving from embedded Azure space (A1 SKU)  to a BI premium space (P1 SKU).

We think that Power BI app in teams didn't have authentification and that there was either a change when Gen2 was activated by org or MS team made a change on the BI app.  This would explain the content that could be viewed that was published in the past, then when same content was re-added, it was now under new system that would authenticate.

Hope this helps someone in future - thanks to contributers for help here.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • HI penningmic ,

Are the users that you are sharing with listed in the Premium license as available to see reports? (Whether by name or group or domain?)

      Hi collinq ,

The users are given direct access.

I noted a strange behavior today where users can view dashboards hosted in teams that are older, things I left around in my testing area.  The strange thing is that those reports are linked to the same identical report as where I am publishing for larger audience.  Even weirder, if I remove that report and re-add it in, the user can no longer view it without Pro license.

I noted in this link https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embedded/embedded-capacity that Teams Embedded is not an A1 SKU... This is clearly or was clearly not true and it doesn't seem like this page has been updated in that area for as far back as I cared to look at the change history.

      Thanks,
      Mike
