Power BI DATASET as Source for EXCEL

Hello,

I have a user requirement. The usere would like to access to a particular table of a Dataset from Excel to use it for their own calculation. The problem is that I can use just the pivot but the user is asking to have the data in Straight Table format (no collapse/or pivot).

Is it possible? Do you know any workaround?

Thanks

Hi, @thebigwhite

As far as I know, “Analyze in Excel” is the best way for us to live connect to Power BI dataset in Excel at current, can the “Analyze in Excel” function help you to achieve your requirement?

Analyze in Excel

What’s more, Users with specific Office SKUs can also connect to Power BI datasets from within Excel by using the Get Data feature in Excel. If your SKU does not support this feature, the Get Data menu option does not appear. You can follow this link

Hi @thebigwhite

The workaround I see is: add a new page to the report and in the convas add all the columns of the specific table to a Table visual. Now if the user is the only one that must see the visual then pin that visual to a dashboard and give him access to it. Remember though to go back to your desktop and hide the page you added then re publish it (the other users can't see the page)

Thanks for the Idea. The best for us will be to have a direct connection to the dataset and avoid manual export to local. So basically they want to use the dataset as source for their excel so they can vlookup local data.

They want to have the possibility to update the data directly from excel.

I know the functionality "anlyze from excel" which is fine but the form is a Pivot Table. I am wonder if I can get the same result but instead on a straight table.
