Power BI Audit Log - EditDataset Operation
What actions performed by users would trigger an "EditDataset" entry in audit log?
One scenario that I noticed is when users re-publishes from desktop to service. In this case it creates 2 entries in audit log, one is "Import" and then followed by "EditDataset".
But I noticed that there are other "EditDataset" entries without any "Import" record prior to it and wondering what could be triggering them.

The "EditDataset" operation in the Power BI audit log is recorded when a user makes changes to an existing dataset.
1.Applying Changes to the Model: Any modification made directly to the data model in the Power BI service, such as writing a new DAX measure, managing relationships, or altering table schemas, will trigger an "EditDataset" entry.
2. Editing Reports in the Service: If a user directly edits a report within the Power BI service (rather than re-publishing from desktop), it could generate an “EditDataset” entry.
3.Changing Dataset Settings: Modifying dataset settings in the Power BI service, such as changing the dataset's name, description, or configuring data sensitivity labels, can also trigger an "EditDataset" entry.Best Regards,

Regarding #2 - When a dataset is refreshed in service would it not be record as "RefreshDataset" operation?

You're absolutely correct. When a dataset is refreshed in the Power BI service, it indeed generates a "RefreshDataset" operation entry in the audit log, not an "EditDataset" entry. My previous mention of dataset refreshes potentially triggering an "EditDataset" entry was inaccurate in this context. Thank you for pointing that out. I've revised my reply.

Maybe the user edited the report in the Service? Import from my records are always related to a ItemName which has the PBIX.
If anyone edited report in service, I am guessing it would be logged under "EditReport" operation in audit logs.

As mentioned in similar post, each available action has its own log event associated with it. Say if someone changed parameters in semantic model settings, it will logged as "UpdateDatasetParameters". So I am looking for those specific actions perfromed in semantic setting that will trigger "EditDataset" operations in log.
