Hi there folks,
Contining my adventures in Power BI, I came across another situation where I'm not exactly sure what I would need to search for in Google. Hopefully, someone here can provide a little hint or direction.
In traditional reporting tools, such as IBM Cognos, users can define hidden and prompted filters. The hidden filters are forced on the report every time, whereas the prompt filters are promidently displayed on the screen, usually with a "run report" button. The filters may or may not be defined as required.
Is there some equivilant to doing this in Power BI Desktop or as part of the web-based dashboard feature? I know Power BI offers (ironically) powerful filters using the filter sidebar on the right. However, I'm concerned that might be too technical for certain users. I would rather the system either show a prompt on the report page or a message pop-up to ensure the users attention. In my research I did identify how to define parameters as part of the power query, but that happens when you refresh the data (such as on loading the report). I want this prompt to be more specific to perhaps a single page, where the user could change it easily multiple times.
Speaking of the report's UI, is there a way to make a button link to open a page (like I could do with Excel VBA) or make that text box (within home->insert) update with dymanic text (such as a header displaying the current filter selections?).
As always, you all rock, thank you for any help!
Any thoughts?
Hi @Anonymous ,
Maybe "bookmark" can fulfill what you need.
