Please Allow Users to Hide or Lock the Filter Pane in Dashboard Focus Mode

Dear Power BI Team,

I just learned how to use Power BI Dashboard to get a snapshot of the data I may want to present or send to a stakeholder. I realized in focus mode of the dashboard visual tile, you can change the filters of that visual. This appears counter-intuitive to the purpose of dashboards, which are to present a single snapshot to stakeholders. Can you please consider adding a function to either

  • Lock the filter pane in dashboard focus mode so stakeholders can see the applied filters but cannot change them
  • Allow dashboard admin and write permission editors to hide this filter pane in focus mode

I have seen two other post in the past talking about this with ~700 views total:

Solved: Hidden Filters Visible in Focus Mode - Microsoft Fabric Community

Solved: Hiding filter pane in In Focus mode - Microsoft Fabric Community

I would appreciate it if this function was added. I know there are current workarounds like pinning an entire report page with only one visual, but I still want to give stakeholders the ability to open in focus mode, but not change any of the filters, as we want that snapshot to be clearly defined for them to present the best information.

I appreciate if viewers could give a thumbs up and maybe we can get Power BI team's attention on this issue.

Thanks,

Hi @AlvinLy ,

First of all thanks to lbendlin  for the quick reply.

According to the official article description,it could not been hidden, and only can be collapsed.

You can submit an idea for it at Home (microsoft.com) and wait for users with the same needs as you to vote for you to help make it happen as soon as possible.

You can also always keep an eye on this document to see if there is any news about it:

Dashboards have neither a Filter Pane nor a Focus mode.  Did you mean reports?

Hi Ibendlin,

If a visual is pinned on a dashboard, there is the elipses on the top right corner where we can open that specific visual's focus mode:

In this focus mode, on the right side there is a filter pane where you can filter and change how that focused version of that visual looks. When we send a pinned visual via dashboard to a stakeholder, we don't want them to slice and filter the information as they please, but we want them to be able to scroll to the left and the right of the visual and digest the visual as we have shown them.

I stand corrected.  I did not know that feature existed. Thank you.

One way to prevent* them from messing with your report is to export the visuals as PNG or PDF.

* well, delay.

Hi Ibendin,

I appreciate your comment on this!

Yes printing as visual will help but i think there are limitations, like if there is a scroll bar and more information, that will require multiple PNG or PDF.

Another alternative would be paginated report, but the dashboard is such a unique and convenient tool with the pinning feature from report, that this extra feature would make it an easy way to share visual data

As mentioned before, a workaround is to make a report page with the data you want and remove all slicers and filter with the filter pane on your report then pinning the entire report page to a dashboard. I see uses in that but they differ from pinning a visual on a dashboard

Thanks,

Think about how you want to be remembered. "That guy who did everything he could to prevent us from doing what we need to do" is hopefully not high on your list.
