Hi All,
I am very new to Power Bi. Not familiar with how to troubleshoot some initial problems I am having at various stages of deployment from Dev to Test workspaces.
Backgound on our use of Power Bi.
We are looking to create and share sales/perfomance reports to 3 different departments. Sales, Property Management & Leasing. Within Sales we would also like to restrict view to results that is just relevant to each of the 3 sales agents.
Source of data will be a combination of the following;
SQL database & excel spreadsheets
As an example;
We have created a simple report in power bi desktop pulling data from the sql database and an excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet and report is saved in a folder in Microsoft Teams.
I have published the report to development pipeline and then immediately deployed to test.
I note the following;
Data refresh at development appears to refresh without errors
Data refresh at test both failed and data source creditentials in settings both have crosses next to them.
Any advice on what I am doing wrong or how to configure properly?
Hi , @lhuynh
Based on your problem description, I noticed this detail "Data refresh at test both failed and data source creditentials in settings both have crosses next to them", so I think that the dataset in your test phase workspace is not properly configured with credentials in the data source definition after being deployed. Because they show a cross next to it means that the credentials are incorrect, I recommend that you try to configure correctly in the data source definition and gateway for these datasets that report errors to ensure that no crosses exist, and then try data refresh:

Hi Aniya,
If the credentials in Development works and we immediately deploy to test, do you know why the credentials would fail at test? or why we are required to re-enter them at test?
Hi , @lhuynh
In the target stage, item properties that are not copied, remain as they were before deployment. New content and new items are copied from the current stage to the target stage.
The following dataset properties are also not copied during deployment:
Role assignment
Refresh schedule
Data source credentials
Query caching settings (can be inherited from the capacity)
Endorsement settings

Hi Aniya,
I have entered the exact credentials that worked at development into test and it doesnt not accept them.
Hi, @lhuynh
According to the screenshot you provided, I found the corresponding error message "The OAuth authentication method isn't supported for this data source" on the internal problem website and has been submitted to the product team. ICM number: 349438899.
Research on this issue is still ongoing in collaboration between product groups and technical engineers, so I'll keep you informed if there are any updates.

Hi Aniya,
Sorry could you clarify, the OAuth authentication works at development but when deployed to test it doesnt work. Is this a system bug that needs to be fixed?
Hi , @lhuynh
Yes, this is strange,it works in your development and not work in test. But according to your error message, there is indeed a corresponding BUG, for your problem, I recommend that you open a support ticket for in-depth troubleshooting.
If you are above a Power BI Pro licensee, you can create a support ticket for free and a dedicated Microsoft engineer will come to solve the problem for you.
It would be great if you continue to share in this issue to help others with similar problems after you know the root cause or solution.

Also, what would be the authentication method for a spreadsheet saved in a Teams directory?
