Personal PowerBI no longer working
Good morning,
Thanks to your guidance, I was able to resolve the issue. Here’s what I did:
- Create New Connections: I established all new connections under "Manage Connections and Gateways" because my previous ones were no longer functional. I added them using the Power BI Gateway (standard) as per your recommendation.
- Update Semantic Model Settings: I navigated to the Semantic model for the reports in question, clicked on "File," then "Settings."
- Configure Gateway and Cloud Connections: Under "Gateway and Cloud Connections," I selected the proper connections for each associated database from the drop-down menus, which I had created in step 1.
- Apply Changes: I clicked "Apply."
- Refresh and Update Schedule: Finally, I refreshed the reports and updated my refresh schedule.
Thank you so much for your guidance; it was instrumental in pointing me in the right direction. Have a happy 4th of July!
Best regards,
Michael
From what I've read on PowerBI the PowerBI Gateway is an outbound gateway service and so since we don't block outbound traffic it has unrestricted ability to send data when requested, but you cannot access the data directly and never have been able to.
Thats why the GW was put in place, and since we've not changed our FW rules from Amazon and it WAS working previously and then stopped auto magically with no changes made to our Amazon Access Lists, I'm not sure what to focus on here.
Any advise?
First time you mention Amazon. Should have led with that.

Mostly true except when your company employs proxies.
but you cannot access the data directly and never have been able to.
Please clarify what you mean here.
Can you confirm that your ODBC connections are set as System DNS ?
