Permission required for Auto Create Report in Power BI Service
What type of permission is needed (least privilege) to Auto create report based on semantic model, does user should have viewer or member or build permission on semantic model?
Hi powerbiexpert22,
The minimum permissions needed are build on the semantic model.
- Grant "Build" on the semantic model (least-privilege for creating new content from a model). See: Build permission and Semantic model permissions.
- The user does not need to be a workspace Member. Viewer is fine if they also have Build on the model.
- They also need somewhere to save the report:
- Save to My workspace, or
- A workspace where they have Contributor. See: Workspace roles.
- Optional: in an App, turn on "Allow users to build content with the underlying datasets" for the audience. See: Share and apps overview.
