ParrallelPeriod issues

I created a measure using ParrallelPeriod in order to calculate the difference between current month sales and previous month sales- this worked as expected. I then tried to take that measures and subtract it from another measure I had created but it did not perform the calculation- it just kept the number from the ParrallelPeriod Measure. Is this not possible?
