In Power BI online, we have 3 different workspaces:
Staging
Test
Production
Within Power BI Desktop, we set up Parameters for server at database so that when we upload the file, Power BI service knows which server/database to pull the information from. However, within the desktop file, there is a default server. For us, this is production.
So, I upload this file into our Test workspace and then I set the parameters for the file in that workspace so that it knows to point to the Test server. If I make changes to the report and have to reupload it, it is going to overwrite the parameter to that it points to production.
Is there a way to keep the online parameters static so that it won't revert back to production every time I have to reupload?
Hopefully this makes sense.
Hi @schwinnen,
Why didn't your change the parameter to TEST in power bi desktop and reload the data before you publish the report to service?
Regards,
Frank
I could do that, but that really doesn't help anything. I have to change the parameter somewhere either way. The hope is that the parameter would save in service so I wouldn't have to keep changing it. Perhaps that is not possible.
Hi @schwinnen,
Based on my test, it is not possible to meet your requirement currently. You can come up a new idea about that and add your comments there to improve Power BI and make this feature coming sooner.
