PBI Gateway - DirectQuery to SAP HANA via KERBEROS

Hello together,

I have an issue with the on-premises data gateway and the direct connection to SAP HANA via KERBEROS.

To our first SAP HANA DB it is not an issue, but here we have only one server behind the system.

But KERBEROS is working.

On the second SAP HANA DB we have more then one server behind the system for scale out tasks, here the Direct Query is not working and I have no further ideas why?

We have use the same gateway, the SPN is also correct and delegation.

Also when I check the SPN in cmd with setspn -Q hdb/ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX I get a confrimation that a SPN is found.

Without KERBEROS the connection is also working.

Do you have any idea for me, what we can check?

Best wishes and thanks for your help

Hi @JeMe ,

I think this should more related to your authorization modes, power bi gateway seems not support to send request to multiple service at same time and receive these result data.

Please use normal connection mode to link datasource or deploy web service to handle these distributed server data then use power bi to get data from that service.

Hi @v-shex-msft  ,

thanks for your feedback.

The gateway connection is sending the request to one master server of the HANA DB, here is only one server set up in the gateway as a DataSource. This server has a few slaves, for scale out processes and better system stability.

From the SAP manual, we found out, that all servers must be configured for KERBEROS usage.
Thats what we have done now, but it is still not working :(.

Only with HANA DB where we have no slaves.

Any ideas?

Maybe you can submit an idea for add support with SAP HANA datasource kerberos authorization.
