Hi
Our business is relatively new to PowerBi and now we are in the situation where we have one developer who creates the reports and shares them to those that need them but we have hit some structuring quieres.
Should you have a generic login for a report and pass ownership of the report to this account when the report is ready to be published. That way if the developer leaves its easy to log in and make changes to the report if necessary. Rather than passing ownership to another user as such? Also with schduled refreshes people who have designated access to this generic account can log in and adjust scheduled re-freshes if needed as and when required.
Its just difficult to know how to manage this when you may have a developer go off sick for several weeks and suddenly an un published report or even a published one has not been passed to another user and needs maintenance. Now your a little stuck!
Can anyone advise on best practice for this please?
Kind regards
Rob

@rredford Your pro user leaving the organization won't have any effect on the next user's ability to edit those reports or datasets. Dataset and report ownership can be changed anytime by another pro user. This also includes scheduled refreshes. That being said having a dedicated service account is always a good idea.
We keep swapping ownerships all the time in our organizations. In some cases it's as simple as clicking a button.
Yes, you have to "take over" the artifact. It's easy to do but it comes with consequences (you will have to reauthenticate to the data sources). So far Microsoft have not committed to provide an alternative to this "single owner" concept.
Thank you

Thank you both responses are helpful.
