Overwrite .pbix with .pbip while maintaining user access + links?

Hi all, my team uses the .pbip file format for Azure DevOps / GIT version control with our DEV workspace. This is a relatively new procedure, whereas previsouly we would publish from .pbix directly to DEV and through the deployment pipeline.

Is it possible to overwrite a .pbix with .pbip file in the workspace while maintaining the same link? Generally, deploying to the subsequent workspace (UAT) with the same semantic model and report name achieves this, but deploying a .pbip file is creating a second report & semantic model entriely, with the exact same name.

There are a large number of users with direct access to specific reports that we would like to maintain the integrety of. Is this possible?

Each artefact in Power BI workspace is store using a specific guid. Replacing the file with the same name, doesn't change the ID however if there is change in the file name, Power BI will treat that as a new artefact. Hence it is always adviced to share the report using Power BI Apps. I understand it hard to update each of the user with the new link, however idle approach to this issue would be to create an app and send the comms to all the people having access to the workspace explaining new features of Power BI Apps.

@goosefrabah You're not using Apps for sharing reports?
