Overwrite Published Report [with embedded Power App] with new PBIX file

I have a Power BI report with an embedded Power App.  I also have a DEV and PRD workspace.

As I understand, when there is a Power App embedded in a published report, development is completed in the cloud because all of the functionality of the Power BI App doesn't work in PBI Desktop.  We have done exactly that and then shared the PRD version with quite a large permissions list and they, of course, have bookmarked the URL.

Now, we find that we need to make changes to the data model that we cannot make in the cloud, Because the file was modified in the cloud and has an embedded Power App, we cannot download a PBIX from the cloud.  We re-made all of the model changes to the old PBIX file and re-embedded the Power App and tried to republish, but the Publish attempt creates a new report in the cloud with exactly the same name as the old one so there are two reports in the same workspace with exactly the same name.

Using the new report would require re-establishing permissions to the report, the Power App, a Power Flow that the App triggers and a Microsoft List for everyone involved as well as notifying them to switch to a new URL.

Is there any way to get the new PBIX file to overwrite the existing cloud PBI report so that we can inherit all of the permission setting that has been done and keep the same URL?

Hi , @Compunuke

According to your requirements, you want to overwrite the published report with the new PBIX file, but you don't want to change the report/dataset ID of the current report in the PBI service, because you have already done some Power Automate flow and permission configuration, do not want to make changes, if this is the case, I do not recommend you to publish the same report from the desktop, I recommend that you use Power The function "Deployment pipeline" to synchronize content between BI workspaces is equivalent to an ALM toolkit in the cloud, you can publish the updated report to another workspace, and then synchronize the changes made by the report/dataset to the original report/dataset through the function "Deployment pipeline":

Thank you for your time and sharing, and thank you for your support and understanding of PowerBI!
