Hi, do you need a gateway (not personal) one in place for one drive to work? I want to know what is the co-relation between gateway and onedrive? Thanks in advance, Ritesh

If you have a file stored in OneDrive you do not need to use the Gateway to get the access to the files.
Just make sure that you connect with SharePoint Files connector or a Web connector.

thanks GilbertQ
One more question: what do you mean by file or web connector? Is that something you explicitely define in power bi desktop file?
I have one workspace where gateway is not defined and I am seeing the report is not getting updated from one drive. It comes with dreaded warning symbol when I try to refresh it in service.
The same report, I put it in another workspace, which has gateway installed, report refreshed fine from Onedrive and ran fine too.
Thanks again!
Ritesh
So I am confused.

Hi there
Yes that is correct the connector is how you connect to the data using Power BI Desktop.
The difference is connecting to data stored in OneDrive in Power BI Desktop. And the other is getting a PBIX file from OneDrive and putting this into the Power BI Service.
