On premises data connection to power BI service

Hi experts,

On my power BI desktop, I am able to connect to on-premises oracle database and develop KPI dashboard with live data. But, when I publish it to my workspace, the dashboard is not able to refresh the real live data. I found that we need a gateway to create a connection between PBI service and on-premises database. But without the gateway, can we use Python script to directly pull out the data from on-premises database?  I am really clueless and if there is a way, could you help to share how to achieve that?

Thanks alot!

Hi @MeiYing : For any on premises data source, you need a gateway. Power BI services is outside your on premises network and for Power BI to reach to your database, you need a gateway connection configured on the Power BI service to be able refresh the dataset.

You can read more about it here : On-premises data gateway - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
