Hej all,
I currently have a datamodel set up with import from a on-premise SQL db through a data-gateway installed on a Virtual Machine on the server. Now I need to connect to another SQL db that is also on-premise though on another server.
For exploring and building the initial tables from the second db I installed a VPN on my pc which allowed me to connect to it. However, I would like to have tables from both db's in the same datamodel and also have a scheduled refresh. However, I don't know how to get about refreshing the second db. Do I need to set up a VPN on the virtual machine where I have the gateway installed and have it connected at all times ? Or what would be the most sustainable approach for the second db to also get refreshed ?
Do not install a gateway on the same machine as the database server. They will starve each other of memory and compute.
Use a regular VM that is located in the same network environment as your data sources. Gateways need to have clear line of sight to the data sources, and are unable to work in a VPN environment.
