On-Premises Gateway

While reviewing my refresh settings I happened to get a glimpse of this ...

Does anyone know the purpose of the checkbox indicated by the red arrow?  Is it possible that there's another approach to accesses on-prem data without using a Personal Gateway?

    one documented way of registering a gateway prior to the release of the personal gateway was

    1. Register the on-premises data source with the Power BI Admin Center.
    2. Enable OData feed for the data source.
    3. Select tables and views to be included in the OData feed.
    4. Grant users the access to the feed.

     

    before the personal gateway all on premises data sources had to be registered in the power bi admin center

      Thanks for the reply.  By "Power BI Admin Center" do you mean Power BI for Office 365?  If so, hasn't that been deprecated by MSFT?

        Does anyone know if the frequency of scheduled refreshes has changed or can refreshes still only be scheduled for every 8 hours?
