OAuth2 Redirect Failure in Power BI Service

We're encountering a new issue with Power BI reports connected to SharePoint Online. Reports developed and refreshed successfully over the past year are still working, but newly published reports (as of today) are failing to refresh in the Power BI Service due to OAuth2 credential issues. Desktop fine, just the service.

  • All standard and advanced checks have been completed.
  • Ownership of the report was transferred and credentials updated, but the issue persists.
  • Attempting to edit credentials in Power BI Service results in a blank OAuth2 redirect page.
  • Tested across:
    • Chrome
    • InPrivate mode
    • Multiple devices
  • Redirects are allowed; no tracking or browser issues found.
  • No recent known issues found after extensive research.
  • A new test report using a different source and owner also fails in the same way.
  • Existing reports continue to refresh successfully.
  • Newly published reports fail due to inability to set credentials.

    Error Message

The credentials provided for the Web source are invalid. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface.

    Redirect URL shown:

    https://preview.powerbi.com/views/oauthredirect.html?.....
    Cluster URI:WABI-UK-SOUTH-C-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net

  • Has anyone else experienced this issue recently?
  • Are there any known changes to OAuth2 flows or Personal Cloud Connect in Power BI Service?
  • Is this potentially a Microsoft platform issue affecting newly published reports only?

Same issue here, so suspect its a wider issue impacting us.

  • Further investigation into the OAuth2 redirect issue in Power BI Service suggests the problem may be related to the authentication browser mechanism, specifically the WebView2 Runtime used by Power BI.

    • In Power BI Desktop, enabling the “Use my default web browser” option reproduces the same blank redirect issue seen in the Service.
    • Power BI Service does not allow switching the authentication browser and relies on WebView2 Runtime internally.
    • WebView2 is responsible for rendering embedded authentication dialogs, including OAuth2 flows.
    • The redirect page appears blank and visually different from usual, indicating a possible issue with how the embedded browser is handling the authentication flow.

We are getting the same issue here, attempting to use OAUTH2 to authenticate a connection to an on-prem gateway. The redirect browser window appears blank, we have tried multiple different browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) so your point about the WebView2 runtime sounds correct.

      Will be watching this space...

  • We have users reporting the same issue and have raised a ticket with MS

Are you thinking this is possibly connected to the new build version of WebView2?

We have the same issue. It started this morning with new credentials for edge and chrome, diff source

  • from MS

I am sending this email to let you know that we can reproduce the issue internally and we are currently investigating the issue.

We will contact you as soon as we have any updates.
