Not working - add user through Update App - Manage Audience Access
Hi there,
I've enabled the "New App Experience", and trying to add users by clicking "Update App" (as I always did under the old app interface):
Then I added specific users under "Manager Audience Access":
I then clicked "Update app".
However the users still have no access and get the message of:
Permission required
You cannot see the content of this report because you do not have permissions to the underlying dataset. Please contact the dataset owner to request access.
To clarify, none of the reports have RLS, I did not create any audience at all. Simply wanted to add users as I usually did under the old interface but no success.
Does anyone know if I did anything incorrectly? Do I have to go into each individual report and add them through "Manage permissions"? Thanks in advance.

No you didn't do anything wrong and you don"t have to add any permission for any one on each report. App space is for end users without permission to acces the underlying dataset. however all users need at least a Pro license to acces the App.
Also you might need to go through all reports one by one(in the desktop) and verify if any RLS was implemented before and therefore you need to delete. Also clear the cache in all reports from the
Once done, re publish the report but before updating the App delete the reports from the App.

Thanks for reply aj1973 . My users have pro license and we have no RLS set up in the reports. I'm not sure if this issue is related to the "new app experience" released recently - as I read some users also have the similar issues https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/Trying-to-update-Power-BI-App-with-the-new-experience/idi-p/2738884.
I've been using the same way to add users without any issue, until I enabled this "new app experience".

Hi Winniethewinner ,
According to the error, perhaps what they are missing is access to the dataset, and you can add the user to the "contributor" role of the workspace.

Anonymous hmmm the thing is those users are not "contributor" which will give them "update the app" permission.
