New User Email notifcation

Hello,

We have recently turned off automatic emails that are sent out from the O365 group that is backing the PowerBI workspace when a new user is added.

But now we have a new problem where the email is turned off and the new user does not get an email from the group, but now they are getting an email from PowerBI iteself notifying the new user that they have been added to the workspace.

Is this a new feature that has been added recently?

Also is there a way of turning this off?

Thank you.

  • I have a gut feeling that this email was created because the user that was added to the workspace has never logged into powerbi even though they have a powerbi pro license loaded on their account.

If anyone could also confirm this, it would be very useful.

    Thank you

      hoonybro90,

I have tested it on my local environment, when seting the group email as the image below.

When a new member with Power BI pro lisence was added into this group by group owner, I will not receive any email notification. Only the member himself will receive a email "Charlie Liao added you to the Charlie group".

So in your scenario, could you please elaborate the steps, so that I can try to reproduce this issue and make further analysis.

      Regards,

      Charlie Liao

v-caliao-msftin our organization, we bulk purchase powerbi pro licenses and assign them to the users that require it.

We have a workspace setup so that the welcome emails that automatically get sent from the O365 group has been switched off.

The email format that you get when you join a group

But when we added users to the workspace through PowerBI, we got reports from some of the people that we recently added that they had received an email and wondering what it was about (below)

        Email received by some users

We did not want any emails going out about the powerbi content at all at this stage, we wanted to give them access to the content and email out with other information about the content to the users.

From some following up with the users that contacted us about the second email, we found that the users, even though they had PowerBI pro licenses assigned to their account, have never logged into or used PowerBI.

And from this and some searching about invitation emails, I was thinking if this was a case of where users are not recorded in the PowerBI systems as being a user until they have logged in atleast once.

        Thank you
