Since 10/10/23, our Tenant Activity logs show 190K activities called 'DiscoverSystemDetailsOfMonkier' and about 500 activities called 'UpdateDatasourceCredentials' by the UserID 'PowerBI'. These are the only activities ever logged by this UserID, and it occurred about the same time we have been seing other issues in the service relating to exporting to excel, exporting to pdf, and visuals not rendering when live connected to AAS sources. Anyone have any insights on what this new activity is, and what changes have been recently deployed in the PBI Service?
@andrewpirie @Dovile @brandonjudge5 Do you see new records of "DiscoverSystemDetailsOfMoniker" in Activity Logs (after 22.10.2023) ?
Happy to say here too :).
Our Actvity Logs increased 85% in size from one day to another (comparing Monday 9 Oct to Monday 16 Oct) and the reason is 'DiscoverSystemDetailsofMoniker'.
I'm seeing these too.
From what I can see a moniker is a reference within a dataset to a target datasource + gateway that the dataset has been set to use to access that datasource, so it's possibly the Power BI service processing a dataset refresh where it needs to get the data source details for its dataset monikers to know which gateway and datasource to connect to. The timing of bursts of these correlates well to busy refresh times in the environment.
These sure are coming through in a high volume. I wouldn't be surprised if these being included in the Activity Logs is a bug introduced in a new update; otherwise this is a high volume activity log operation and it doesn't represent a user performing an activity.
I also see a single "UpdateDatasourceCredentials" record for the PowerBI user after I updated credentials for a datasource on the gateway page.
