Hi,
I am faculty teaching Power BI - I need to use the 'auto-create' report feature for 'My Workspace' reports and also use Copilot for 'My Workspace' reports for me and students. Which Power BI license do I need to use to make this work? If iti can be done using free Microsoft Fabric then please share instructions of how to use Microsoft Fabric for this?

According to my knowledge:
To use Copilot and Auto‑Create Report inside My Workspace, you and your students cannot use the free Power BI license alone.
Because Copilot only works in workspaces assigned to paid Fabric (F2+) capacity and Copilot is NOT supported on free or trial Fabric SKUs.
Also: My Workspace must live on the premium/Fabric capacity, otherwise Copilot will not appear.

You cannot use Copilot or auto-report creation in “My Workspace” with just a free Power BI account.
Even though Power BI Free lets you create and view reports in your own My Workspace, Copilot and the auto-create report features require capacity that supports those AI capabilities.
A Microsoft Fabric paid capacity enables Copilot features for Power BI reports and any Microsoft Fabric capacity SKU like F2 or above should be configured for Copilot if enabled by your admin.

I understand you're looking to use both the auto-create report feature and Copilot in My Workspace for teaching purposes. For those features, you'd typically need a Power BI Pro license, as Copilot requires either a Pro or Premium Per User license.
If you're exploring Fabric, note that the free Fabric trial gives you access to these capabilities, but for ongoing classroom use, you'd likely need Pro licenses for each user. I've been helping educators set up similar environments, and sometimes custom AI tools built into dashboards can offer an alternative for natural language queries without additional Copilot licenses, like PowerMind, which you can see in action on this LinkedIn demo if you're curious about different approaches.
