Multiple gateways one server

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using an on-premises data gateway to refresh Power BI dashboards and establish connections in PowerApps, and everything works well within the current environment.

However, I now need to use the same gateway in a new PowerApps environment that is located in a different region.

  • Is it possible to configure a single gateway to work across multiple PowerApps regions?

  • If not, is it supported to install and run multiple gateways on the same Microsoft server (to cover both regions)?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Thankyou, sergej_og, for your response.

    Hi Anonymous,

We appreciate your inquiry posted on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

As per my understanding, a single on-premises data gateway cannot be utilised across Power Platform environments situated in different Azure regions. Gateways are region-specific and are bound to the environment's region at the time of registration.

Kindly consider the following workaround which may help to resolve the issue:

    1. You may install multiple gateways on the same physical server by configuring separate virtual machines (VMs) or containers, with each hosting one gateway instance. This approach allows you to register each gateway to a different PowerApps environment in its respective region.
    2. Set up a VM (or container) for each region/environment. Install a standard data gateway in every VM and register each gateway to the appropriate Power Platform environment and region. Please ensure that network and firewall settings permit access to your data sources.

  • I'm pretty sure your installtion of more than one gateway clients on one VM will fail, becasue there is already one client on the maschine running. I don't think MS reccomend this approach.
You should be able to cover your regions with one gateway but I don't know your security / network setup.
