Multiple active connections from personal gateway

Hi,

We have a personal gateway installed on a windows machine which connects to our on-premises data source (PostgreSQL) to refresh 5 reports. The refreshes are scheduled early morning our time. Now the issue we are facing is that when personal gateway

connects to the postgresql server it creates an active connection which remains active. Due to this we end up having many active connections and the database server goes down since we have set a limit on the postgresql on active connections.

Not sure if anyone faced this problem but any insights would be helpful.

Thanks.

    Hi Anonymous,

In terms of Power BI, as we connect to the on-premises PostgreSQL database, we need to configure the personal to enable refresh. When the refresh is occurring, Power BI makes a secure connection to the gateway installed on the desktop computer. It then securely connects to the data sources to get updates. It means that the active connection is opening to connect to the PostgreSQL database.

In your scenario, please increase the refresh time interval. And check if the report retrieve data from PostgreSQL database are running frequently. Also you can ask the PostgreSQL database administrator to monitor all connections open to PostgreSQL database, check if any other connection is always active. If only power BI query data from PostgreSQL frequently, you can raise the limitation properly.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

      Thanks v-qiuyu-msft.

Can you elaborate more on increase the refresh time interval? How do I increase/decrease it?

      Regards,

        Hi Anonymous,

I mean you can configure schedule refresh daily or weekly, and set the refresh time in a period when the PostgreSQL server is not heavy.
