Hi
We have a small data warehouse which is currently just less than 3MB in size. I expect the maximum size that it will reach would be 50MB. The recommended minimum spec for a server acting as a Power BI gateway is as follows
Due to the small size of our Data Warehouse, what would be the smallest configuration that we could use for the gateway?
We are also investigating creating a VM in Azure to act as the power bi gateway. The reports will be refreshed overnight and I would like to know whether we could shut the server down and only run it when the reports were refreshed probably between 01:00AM->06:00AM. We would like to keep costs to a minimum.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Kind regards
Chris
The latest spec is for Windows Server 2019

@cdwilson100 - I would say you could probably try halving those specifications and give it a whirl, mabye even on a Windows 10 device honestly. Now, none of what I just said is best practice, but if you want to see what you can get away with, try it out on an Azure VM and see how it goes.
Thank you for your reply Greg, I will investigate the different configurations with a VM in Azure and let you know the outcome.
Kind regards
Chris
Would you recommend shutting down the Power BI gateway and only run it overnight to refresh the data in the reports?
Hi @cdwilson100 ,
Just make sure that the gateway service is running when the the scheduled refresh is in progress.
Best regards,
Lionel Chen
