Migrate or Restore Process Power BI On premises Gateway

Hi Team , I want to know the migrate or restore process of previous version of my gateway. I gone throught the document and have little bit doubt can you please explain me.

1)1st I need to uninstall it from control panel.

2)Download the prevoius version of on prem gateway then click on run as adminstrator then select migrate or restore.

3)Provide cluster name and recovery keu details

Before doing restore activity do I need to take any file as backup

link -  https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-migrate.

Please let me know the exact steps to follow.

  • not sure I understand your question. If you don't want to backup/restore the config files you can also manually modify them after the reinstall.

    - uninstall current version

    - install older, reliable version (don't run configurator just yet)

    - make app folder writable

    - make FabricIntegrationRuntime folder writable

    - apply config changes

    - (if needed : modify trusted sites list)

    - (if needed : reinstall custom connector .mez and make folder readable)

    - restart gateway service

    - run config app and select "recover".

    - select cluster member to recover and provide Recovery Key

You will need to take backups of the five configuration files.

Then follow the described process. Select Restore.  When finished, replace the configuration files. Lastly, restart the service.

  • Hi ManasRout

Also make sure that you have got the recovery key as part of your installation process because when you restore you need the recovery key to enable all the existing Data source gateway connections to be successfully restored.
