Microsoft 365 Usage Analytics Report Refresh fails in the Service

Starting on 3/30/2025 the Microsoft 365 Usage Analytic (downlaoded from Microsoft) report will not refersh in the service.  If the report is opened in the Power BI Desktop app, the report refreshes without any issues.  I have seen this issue in two different tenants.  The error is always on a different table and looks like this:

"error":{"code":"DMTS_OAuthTokenRefreshFailedError","pbi.error":{"code":"DMTS_OAuthTokenRefreshFailedError",
"details":[{"code":"DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingErrorMessage","detail":{"type":1,"value":"AADSTS70000:
Provided grant is invalid or malformed.

Has anyone else seen this?

Is there a fix?

Hello.

I opened a support ticket because I've been experiencing same error and I've got an answer saying they are aware and working on it, see:

Analysis: It sounds like you've encountered an issue with the Microsoft 365 Usage Analytic report, stating that starting on 3/30/2025, the report would not refresh in the service, although it refreshed without issues in the Power BI Desktop app. The error encountered was related to an invalid or malformed grant, specifically the AADSTS70000 error.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the issue. Our Product team has identified this issue as a known issue, and they are currently working to fix this issue as soon as possible. our dedicated internal team is actively working on resolving it, and I want to assure you that your concern is being given the highest priority. The current status of the issue is "processing," and we are diligently working towards a solution.

It's solved!
Important to re-sign at Settings>Data source credentials>Edit credentials and continue.

"We received an update from our Product team that they have implemented the fix for the issue.

In order to implement the mitigation in your environment as well, please re-sign with your credentials and try to refresh again. The token could be cached and need to be refreshed for the mitigation to apply."

My data refreshes also began working yesterday. (ps: I always do this after any reshesh failure:

Settings>Data source credentials>Edit credentials, sign In)

Same here started on 3/31 at 5AM EDT. I was thinking it was tied to our licensing renewal contract which turned over 3/31, but its been days under new contract and licensing.   Dont know what to do!  I ee it on two reports, both are ainstances of the M365 Usage analycs report from MSFT

Hello @ScottShearer,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.

After thoroughly reviewing the details you provided, it appears that the error you're encountering, DMTS_OAuthTokenRefreshFailedError, with the underlying message AADSTS70000: Provided grant is invalid or malformed, is related to an OAuth token refresh issue. This problem has been observed by other users as well.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

  • Delete the existing Usage Metrics Dataset and recreate it. This has been a successful solution for similar issues.
  • Check that the OAuth tokens are not expiring before the scheduled refresh. Adjusting the settings to keep the tokens valid might help.
  • Re-authenticate the credentials in the Power BI service after the refresh failure.

If this information is helpful, please “Accept it as a solution” and give a "kudos" to assist other community members in resolving similar issues more efficiently.
Thank you.

Hi @ScottShearer

I would recommend logging a support ticket because clearly this is something that is outside of your tenant and unfortunately cannot be fixed by yourself. https://aka.ms/FabricSupport

I also started seeing the issue as of March 31st.  Same issue and also noticed the Table name changes but the same error.  I've been troubleshooting for days trying to fix the issue.
