Measure doesn't work when Data Set Refreshes

Hello! I have a measure that on desktop, works great. When I publish to service, everything also works great. But when the data refreshs on the service, through the on-demand refresh the measure doesn't work. Nothing shows up in the visuals. Can anyone help? Is it because I need to wait? or..

Hi there

Could I ask you to make sure that you have set the Reset to default button after the dataset refresh?

You can also have a look at the Filters on your visual to see what is filtering the visual which could possibly be filtering something out as shown below.

@GilbertQ  Thank you for the reply! Although the recommendations weren't the cause. One of the pages doesn't have filters, and I pressed the reset to default button and that didn't help either. Not sure what else to do.

Hi there

There must be something when it is being updated that is causing the change.

Are there any parameters in your PBIX?

@GilbertQ  Nope no Parameters, double chekced to be sure.

Hmmm I am not sure what else could be affecting the change then.

The only thing I could think of is once it has refreshed on the Power BI Service, if you download that version of the PBIX and compare the differences between the 2 PBIX files?

@GilbertQ  It seems a custom column's data disapears once the refresh happens, do you think this would happen with a calculated column?

That should not happen on a calculated column

I would suggest always creating the column in the Query editor, it allows for better compression and faster refreshes.

@GilbertQ  I prefer creating it in the Query too..but this is where it is already and for some reason the refresh is erasing that data.

Hi there

The refresh will only apply the steps that it has in the PBIX, I have never seen anything deleted by the refresh process.

I would suggest comparing the PBIX files to see the difference.

I didn't do anything but the issue is now resolved for some reason.

That is really interesting, glad that it now is working!
