Mail enabled Security Group Permissions and Datasets

Hi,

We use mail-enabled security groups to manage permissions to workspaces and datasets.

All datasets are in one workspace (BI WS) and reports are copied to other workspaces.

We use the mail-enabled security groups to grant access to the various workspaces, and, in the past we also used these groups to set permissions at the dataset level. This seems no longer possible, we get the message "FAILURE. Failed to grant access" with no further information.

For info, it works with Microsoft 365 groups.

Has there been any change? Is there a fix? Or a workaround?

Thank you in advance for your help

Christine

Hi, @NorwoodFrog ;

First, is your workspace a classic workspace or a new one? Note that classic workspaces are relatively restrictive, and may not be if you have data set permissions, so if you are a classic workspace, try upgrading to a new one.

Second, check whether the function of enabling mail is turned off. It is better to enable it.

In Addition, In the new workspaces:

  • Assign workspace roles to user groups: security groups, distribution lists, Office 365 groups, and individuals.
  • Use more granular workspaces roles for more flexible permissions management in a workspace.

@v-yalanwu-msft  it doesn't appear I'm able to add a Mail-enabled group to an Audience. Is this a limitation in the current version of Audiences? Thanks.

Thank you for your help Yalan. I will work with our IT department to check these things out and come back to you.

Kind regards

Christine
