MICROSOFT : Get error table name into refresh email fail BACK !!!

Since a few weeks, table names are gone in error message. I've heard that this is "for security" purpose, that spreading table names could breach some confidentiality.... ?!

Can you explain how dataset owner should NOT see the table name in error for confidentiality reasons ? That's 200% non sense.
And if the data owner allow other users to receive the failure email in copy, it means there is no issue in them to see the table names. It's totally controllable.

But if you want to improve "confidentiality" there are many ways you can do that without making life harder :

1) On Premium, put that as a settings to show/hide the table name so admin can decide.
2) Hide most of the table name : ex "Salary Table" becomes "S***** ****E"  => that's already VERY helpful!
3) Make it that only the data set owner received the table name, people in CC does not..

I dont understand why you want to make life harder for no reason. We run very large PBI with many different files that can share same column header, so having just column header doesnt help. It becomes way less efficient to fix issues. What took 2 min to fix and could done by users as they knew which table thus file is wrong now takes ages as owner needs to run it on Desktop and check...

If the idea receives significant support from users, Microsoft may consider implementing a tenant-level setting that allows administrators to control whether table names are included in failure notifications.

    You're right, this change is counterproductive for administrators. Microsoft removed table names from refresh failure emails citing "security," but it hinders troubleshooting for dataset owners.

    Here's the reality: this wasn't a user-requested feature. It's a top-down compliance decision that ignores operational workflows.

    Thanks Kedar_Pande ... still fail to see "security" for what and "compliance" to what ... It's pure non sense 🙂

     We understand your concern, and it is indeed frustrating. Microsoft removing table names from refresh-failure emails makes troubleshooting much slower for dataset owners. Although the exact Microsoft change or the internal product flag that caused this has not been publicly detailed, this behavior was introduced to align with certain security and compliance standards.

     

    As a workaround, you can try the following steps:

     

    1. Use Power BI REST API or Admin Portal for Detailed Error Logs
    Navigate to the Power BI Service → Dataset → Settings → Refresh History, and download the error log Excel file, which includes table-level error details.  Alternatively, you can use the Power BI REST API to automate the retrieval of refresh error logs, providing full metadata and visibility into the affected tables.

     

    Another effective option is to create a Power Automate flow that triggers on refresh failure using the Power BI connector. Within the flow, use the Admin API to extract detailed error logs, including specific table names, and configure it to send customized email notifications to dataset owners and designated recipients (CC).

     

    We recommend submitting your request on the Power BI Ideas Forum ( https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com/).If many users upvote the idea, Microsoft is more likely to reconsider this change and introduce a tenant-level setting allowing admins to control whether table names appear in failure notifications.

      But that won't work i'm only admin of my workspace, dont have access to the PBI Admin portal.
