Limiting Download of Underlying Data

In the online service I often want to prevent end-users from downloading the underlying data as it may contain sensitive data. There used to be an option to change what users could download (underlying, summarized, or none) by going to the settings/gear icon on the actual report, but that option has disappeared recently. Does anyone know where it went?

I do still see the option to limit this in the Desktop version by going to File > Options > Report settings. However, no matter what I change these to, it doesn't seem to push through when published to the online version.

Am I missing something?

Hi @JonV

I have tried it from the Power BI Desktop settings and then uploaded, and this has stopped it from happening.

The other option is you can go under visual headers and configure the details there, so that it will not show the three buttons "..." which will then disable them from exporting the underlying data

Hi @JonV,

I can find the option in admin portal by my side. The full admin portal is accessible to all users who are Global Admins in Office 365 or have been assigned the Power BI service administrator role. If you're not in one of these roles, you only see Capacity settings in the portal. For more details, please check the online document.

Thanks @GilbertQ. I have tried changing the permissions in the Desktop version again. Apparently I needed to back out of the workspace in the online service and come back in before the changes took effect. Glad to know it's working though!

I'd love to mark your reply as a solution, but the boards here keep giving me errors when I try to do so. 😞
