Licenses for VM machine running gateway?

Hi,

We are looking at getting licenses for users and using a virtual machine to run the gateway Enterprise refreshes each night.

Do we need a separate licence for the VM machine?

Hi there

The use of the On-Premise data gateway is free.

You would need Windows license for the VM.
As well as Power BI Pro licenses if you are sharing any content.
Or Power BI Premium where you can put the App Workspace in the premium tenant and then share it with Free users.

Thanks for the reply. We are currently using the Pro Trail version, but the free gateway isn't reliable. A bit of reading comments and users said they needed to get the Pro licence.

Our set up all on Pro Trail currently

 - 1 Developer

 - 4 users (will grow to 40)

Hi there,

I would suggest installing the On-Premise Gateway in Enterprise Mode. And i have had the Gateway running for several months without any issues.

And the Pro Trial accounts will work exactly like the Pro accounts until they expire, so you can fully evaluate everything.

Hi there, you will have to uninstall and then re-install the Gateway to get the option shown to you during the installation.

I reinstalled on line premies gateway on my PC, but i can't see the option to turn on enterprise mode. Thanks

Hi @Denismc,

You don't need to turn on the enterprise mode if you install the non-personal mode.

OK the option should then be there, unless your PC is not 64bit?

It's a 64-based laptop on Wins10 Pro, but I think it's 32 bit as the system Directory states C:\Windows\System32

That is a 64bit system.

I am not sure why you are getting this issue, because it works perfectly fine for me.
