LargeModelMovedAcrossRegions - Refresh and Download Both Blocked After Enabling Alerts
Hi Community,
I'm experiencing a critical issue with my Power BI semantic model that started today (June 15, 2026) after enabling Power BI alerts. My report was working perfectly for 4 weeks prior to this.
Error: LargeModelMovedAcrossRegions - regionName: Central US
Issue: My workspace is in East US but the semantic model appears to have been migrated to Central US following the alerts setup. Both refresh and .pbix download are now blocked with the same error.

Cluster URI: WABI-US-CENTRAL-B-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net
What I've tried:
- Re-authenticating data source credentials
- Switching between all available cloud connections
- Attempting .pbix download — also blocked
- Power BI Desktop — report not accessible from service
Request: Can Microsoft support or anyone in the community help move this semantic model back to East US without data loss? I'm on a trial account and cannot raise a formal support ticket.
Thank you

I suspect the problem is that the trial regions are not the full selectable regions and this is going to be the root cause. I don't think you'll find a solution without a full capacity chosen in the same region.
From this page I note

Hi DPELL
I would recommend chatting to your Fabric administrator as it looks as though they might have moved your workspace to a different capacity and that is now why you are getting the error. You will need to work with your Fabric admin to move your workspace back to the other capacity or you will have to upload your semantic model to your workspace again in the new capacity region.

Thank you for the advice. I believe I am the Fabric admin as PowerBI was created on a free trial account.
However, when I attempt to migrate the capacity as shown in other guides, I do not see the same options.

I was able to change the Workspace settings from Fabric Trial to PowerBI Pro, but in PowerBI Pro I am told I need to be in a Fabric Trial to open the report.
My only option for a Fabric Trial is East US, and this report is in Central. Is there a way for me to request a Central US compute resource for my Fabric trial?
I am stuck in a loop between the region mismatch of Central and East, and not having a compute resource in Central.

Are you using any deployment pipelines or incremental refresh? If not, you should be able to download the PBIX file out. If so, you can delete the model from the workspace after downloading out and then publish the model back into the workspace.
This will wipe any permissions and shares but should retain all of the data. The report will get a new GUID.

Hi Ross,
Not using deployment pipelines or incremental refresh. Unfortunately the download is also blocked with the same error:
LargeModelMovedAcrossRegions - regionName: Central US
The semantic model appears to be stored in Central US Premium files storage but my workspace is in East US. Both refresh and .pbix download are blocked.
When I switch workspace to Fabric Trial (East US) I get:
"This dataset is backed by premium files storage and can only be loaded on a Premium capacity"When I switch to Power BI Pro I get:
"dataset must be moved to its original region, Central US"There is no Central US capacity option available to select.
This was triggered last Friday after enabling Power BI alerts on a report that had been working for 4 weeks.

Does the workspace have the symbol?
This might be a silly question, do you already have an offline copy of this report/model that you could do a manual refresh of to have the same data?
