Language settings in Power BI Service
I need to design report in Japanese language , if i design report in english and just change the settings to japanese then will it automatically change all my report and chart titles in japanese?
example if chart title is "Sales by month" then will it automatically convert to japanese - 月別売上高 or this settings is only applicable for menu options available in Power BI service (example workspaces , browse etc) and not report or chart titles?
what are the limitations of below option? ( means which power bi components it is not applicable or cannot change language)?
Unfortunately, it will not automatically translate a semantic model. Here are some examples below Plan translation for multiple-language reports in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
The language setting shown in your screenshot — found under Settings → Preferences → Language → Select display language — only affects the Power BI Service interface, not the actual report content. This means it changes the display language of the menus, buttons, workspace names, navigation panels, and system messages within Power BI Service, but it does not automatically translate your report text, such as chart titles, labels, measures, or visuals like “Sales by Month.” So, if you design your report in English and later switch the display language to Japanese, Power BI will only localize the interface elements (e.g., “Workspace,” “Settings,” “Share”), while your report visuals will still show English text unless you manually translate them.
To create multilingual reports, including Japanese, you would need to implement Dynamic Localization — for example, by creating a translation table in your data model containing text for each supported language and using DAX measures with the SELECTEDVALUE() function to display the correct language based on user selection or browser language. In short, this “Select display language” option does not affect report titles, labels, or visuals; it only controls the Power BI Service’s interface language.
