Lakehouse blob shortcut creation failure with no helpful error message

Been trying to create a Lakehouse shortcut to connect to a blob container in the same region. The error message just says Operation Failed (as shown below). How should I begin to troubleshoot this?

Can you please confirm that you have the blog storage Gen2 and that the hierarchical namespaces is enabled? here are details on how to complete the shortcut Create an Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 shortcut - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

thanks @GilbertQ, that is my problem. Unfortunately upgrade is not an option, have to migrate into a gen 2.
