Hello everyone, I have issues refreshing my report on app.powerbi.com. On the Desktop version I never faced any diifculties in refreshing my report. I did some research and think that it has something to do with my privacy setting. I am new to Power BI. I get this error message (see below), eventhough all privcay settings are on organisation. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Hi @hish
Welcome to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum. Thank you @bilalrana and @Greg_Deckler for sharing the insights.
The refresh problem you are experiencing in Power BI Service, even though it works fine in Power BI Desktop, is likely caused by mismatched privacy levels between your report's data sources. Power BI enforces privacy settings strictly when combining different sources, and conflicting privacy levels can prevent a refresh in the Service to avoid data exposure. While you can override these settings in Power BI Desktop, these changes don't transfer to the Service, which can lead to refresh failures even if all sources are marked as "Organizational."
This often happens with cloud sources or custom connectors where privacy settings may not be obvious or easily changed. To fix this, make sure all data sources have matching privacy levels, ideally set to "Organizational," by checking under File > Options and settings > Data source settings in Power BI Desktop.
Also, confirm that each cloud source's privacy level is set in Power BI Service. If needed, adjust your queries to avoid mixing incompatible sources, and use Ignore Privacy Levels carefully, as it doesn’t work in the Service and could be a security risk. Make sure your gateway is set up properly, credentials are current, and try clearing cached permissions in Desktop to remove any leftover conflicts.

Thank you very much for your explanation. How can I set the privacy level on Power BI service?
Hi @hish
To set the privacy level in the Power BI Service, follow these steps to ensure your data sources are properly configured and compliant with privacy rules:
1. In the Power BI Service, click on the settings gear icon in the top-right corner and select Manage connections and gateways.
2. On the Data page, switch to the Connections tab to view all existing data connections. Find the connection you want to configure, click the ellipsis (three dots) next to it, and choose Settings.
3. In the Settings pane under the General section, you’ll see an option to set the privacy level. Choose from Private, Organizational, or Public, depending on the sensitivity and scope of your data source.
4. Click Save to apply the new privacy level configuration.

Karpurapu D.
The source database connection interupted. Either the the source database services got restarted during the refresh or you get connection timed out.
You can also check the temp table space of source Database, ask DBA to clear the temp table space. then validate the gateway and DB connection either its online or not.
Then you should re-initiate the On-Demand refresh.
