Issue with Power BI Online Connection to Power BI Semantic Model

I have a report that uses a Power BI semantic model that was built by my colleague and shared with me. I have built the report using SQL DB source and Power BI Semantic Model.
It works perfectly, but when I shared it with business users, there was an issue "Error Fetching data for this visual"?

Power BI Error

  • Hi everyone,

    Thank you for your response.
I discovered that the issue was related to Row-Level Security (RLS). After consulting with the Power BI semantic owner, we identified an RLS rule causing the problem. Once the permissions were properly set, everything worked fine.

  • Please provide more details - is this a shared capacoity, Premium or Fabric?  Are you sharing the report, the workspae or the app?

    Hi MuradMusleh_YE ,

It sounds like you’re encountering a common issue when sharing Power BI reports. Here are a few potential solutions to try:

Permissions: Ensure that the business users have the necessary permissions to access both the SQL DB source and the Power BI semantic model. Sometimes, users need explicit permissions to view the data.

Gateway Connection: If you’re using DirectQuery, check if the gateway connection is properly configured and running. A broken gateway connection can cause data retrieval issues.

Capacity and Licensing: If the report is shared in a workspace with shared capacity, consider moving it to a premium capacity workspace. Also, ensure that the users have the appropriate Power BI licenses.

    Hope it helps!
