Issue with Power BI Online Connection to Azure PostgreSQL - Missing Assembly 'System.Runtime.Compile

I am experiencing an issue when trying to connect Power BI Online to my Azure PostgreSQL database. The error message I receive is:

Failed to update data source credentials: An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.' Activity ID: ff4337ed-2f6e-4865-9c33-5c843b9568ae Request ID: a6dc0300-c46a-f794-1488-7d735cecfb51 Status code: 400 Time: Tue Sep 17 2024 01:28:57 GMT-0300 Service version: 13.0.24209.56 Client version: 2409.2.20860-train Cluster URI:

The error seems to indicate that a required assembly or dependency is missing in the connection between Power BI Online and Azure PostgreSQL. As this is a cloud service, I do not have control over installing drivers or managing dependencies.

Could you please provide guidance on how to resolve this issue in the Power BI Online environment?

Thank you for your assistance.

Good afternoon everyone! Check your reports because the error is solved. At least in my case where I connect to a base that is located on a web server.
Greetings!!

Same issue,
I'm using Power BI Desktop dataset connected to Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
I can refresh my data in Power BI Desktop dataset with same credentials to PostgreSQL PRD and I can SELECT same database from Azure Data Studio with same DB user credentials.
In this dataset I have also connection to other PBI dataset via Direct Query to specific table from it .
After publishing of same dataset to Power BI Services I'm recieving same error:
'Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'

Same issue, tried installing npgsql  v4.1.14  but with out luck. The error now shows up in desktop. Before it showed up in App service.

Has Microsoft published something about this issue? It looks the issue is coming from the backend of PowerBI Service. @Microsoft @support

might be something to do with CA certificates update for postgre services in august, if they use certificate pinning they will not be able to connect in case they forgot to update it

I'm facing the same issue. In Power BI Desktop, the connection works perfectly. However, when I try to schedule the refresh in Power BI Service, I encounter an error related to the connection with the PostgreSQL database.

Hello,

We have been experiencing the same issue since last week, and our clients are concerned because they cannot access the BI Dashboard. Microsoft has not provided a solution for this problem, which raises concerns that they may be pushing our clients towards Tableau.

Best regards,

Facing same issue I guess

An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.'

Tengo el mismo problema para realizar las actualizaciones automáticas hacia una base de datos PostgreSQL alojada en un servidor web. Las actualizaciones manuales sin embargo si funcionan, solo fallan las automáticas:
* Error: No se pudieron actualizar las credenciales de origen de datos: An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=xxxxxxxx' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.'

Espero pronto aparezca la solución... Saludos!

It's insane, that this problem still persits, when can we expect a solution?

This is very urgent to many customers, nobody can activate or change the refresh policy for PG connections in semantic models atm!

About a week ago, I was able to connect to Azure Database for Postgres - Flexible Server from app.powerbi.com (Power BI Service) with no issues.

The Power BI report published was in direct query mode and I did not have to use a gateway.

Now I am getting this error:

Failed to update data source credentials: An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Could not load file or assembly 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Unsafe, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=xxxxxxxxxxx' or one of its dependencies.

The system cannot find the file specified.'Hide details

Request ID: xxxxxxxxxxx
Status code: 400
Time: xxxxxxxxxxx
Service version: xxxxxxxxxxx
Client version: xxxxxxxxxxx
Cluster URI: xxxxxxxxxxx

This problem does not occur if a data gateway is used. However, this is not an option for me.
Plus microsoft itself claims this:

Could you please look into this?
Thanks

Both of my postgres connections in a report are broken with this same error.  They refresh fine in PBI Desktop.  Adding another datapoint.  Please fix.  Thank you.

Hi Team,

I've been facing the same issue since Monday this week. While I can successfully connect via Power BI Desktop, the connection from Power BI on Azure Web continues to fail. I suspect this may be related to a platform issue on Microsoft's side.

Could you please look into this?

Best regards,

Mine doesn't run even on Power BI Desktop...

Began receiving the same message this morning also via the service, I got an encrypted error if refreshing via desktop. Have you been notified of any solutions yet? Or is this a PBI issue awaiting a fix?
