Issue with Power BI Online Connection to Azure PostgreSQL - Missing Assembly 'System.Runtime.Compile
- 1 year ago
Good afternoon everyone! Check your reports because the error is solved. At least in my case where I connect to a base that is located on a web server.
Greetings!!
Hi zeromero
Please try and check the below things
1) Install latest gateway (if not already installed)
2) Install PostgreSQL driver
3) Create a data source for PostgreSQL in gateway
4) Map data source to Dataset in the dataset settings page
In short, you have to install latest version of NpgSQL and when installing, select the NpgSQL GAC option. The article I linked has a more detailed step-by-step guide.

Hi @Ailsa Tao,
As I mentioned in my previous message, I am using the Azure PostgreSQL database precisely to avoid the need for an on-premises data gateway. When using the gateway, everything works as expected, but the advantage of Azure is to eliminate the need for this extra setup.
This same issue occurred a few years ago, and at the time, Microsoft identified the problem, provided a 15-day resolution window, and suggested using the gateway temporarily while they worked on a fix.
I have several clients connected to my database, and installing the gateway for each of them is not a viable solution.
The purpose of my message is to find out if others are experiencing the same problem and if Microsoft or the Power BI team is already aware of it. I’ve tried everything I can on my side. I’ve created a new database, tested with another tenant, and the issue persists.
Any insights from the team would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Jose Romero

We use Azure PostgreSQL for us and our customers for this exact reason as well. We had Microsoft run maintenance today which took long enough for 4 refreshes to fail and now can't get automatic refresh back on for a mission critical dashboard.
Responses like use the gateway show a total lack of understanding of the problem.
