Issue with Connecting to Salesforce

When I enter my Salesforce credentials in the "Salesforce Objects" data connection wizard, it refreshes and blanks out. I tried connecting to Salesforce via Excel and receive a script error. I am able to connect to the "Salesforce Report" via web app.

    Hi ppark,

     

    Did you get any error in desktop? What was the script error existing in Excel? Have you tried to use the latest desktop version?

      I have the latest desktop version (Version: 2.58.5103.501 64-bit (May 2018))

       

      No errors on the desktop app. It just clears out the username/password after I click "Log In". 

       

      On the Excel end I receive a "Expected identifer, string or number"; Code: 0 error.

       

      If I tell it to continue running scripts it gives me a "The value of the property 'lazyload' is null or undefined, not a Function object"; Code 0 error.

    Hi ppark As a workarounbd, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party connector, which pulls data directly from the SF objects API, so you won't have the rows limitation SF report has. I've tried windsor.ai, supermetrics and funnel.io. I stayed with windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know other options. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the Salesforce connector in the data sources list:

     

     

    After that, just grant access to your Salesforce account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your Salesforce fields:

     

     

    There just select the fields you need. It is also compatible with custom fields and custom objects, so you'll be able to export them through windsor.  Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.

    Since the connection started working again without configuration changes, the root cause was never confirmed.

    Power BI Connector for Salesforce offers an alternative connection method using an app-specific token and OData source. It lets you select and preview the required Salesforce objects and fields before import.

     

    If Salesforce Reports is used as a workaround, note that the native Reports connector has a separate 2,000-row limit.
