Issue with Auto-Update of Published Power BI Report on Web
- 1 year ago
Hello AinSyahfiqa,
There is a Chrome extension available for automatically refreshing Power BI visuals(To be honest I haven't used it because it is not available in my job computer.):
Power BI Visuals Auto Refresh Extension
However, I personally prefer using my own method to enable auto-refresh with HTML code.
You can follow the link below to learn how to implement it:

Hi AinSyahfiqa
I understand you're facing an issue with the auto-update of your published Power BI report on the web. Based on your setup, it appears that the auto-update feature is only available with DirectQuery and live connection methods.
To ensure your published report updates automatically without needing to refresh the browser, you should consider using either DirectQuery or a live connection. These methods allow for real-time data updates and dynamic querying, which should address the issue you're experiencing.
If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask!
If this helps, then please Accept it as a solution and dropping a "Kudos" so other members can find it more easily.
Hope this works for you!
Thanks.

Hello @uzuntasgokberk,
Thank you so much for your reply.
I tested the Chrome extension, but it seems it did not refresh my Power BI report. I also tried using it with a different account, but it still didn’t seem to work.
Regarding the HTML code, may I know if you ran the code on a server? I assume the HTML code needs to keep running continuously to enable the refresh right? Also, would it be possible to share the published report with other people as well?
Looking forward to your guidance.

Hello AinSyahfiqa ,
The HTML code only enables automatic web refresh and does nothing beyond that(such as not refresh the dataset etc.), as I have implemented it this way.
If you have a mini computer that needs to display content on a television (as in my case), the only requirement is to open the HTML file. However, it must be a computer; I haven't tested it on a server, so I cannot confirm whether it would work in that environment.
If you'd like to share your report, you have several options, such as publishing to an app or using embedded code, as shown in the image below.
Kind Regards,

Hi uzuntasgokberk,
Thank you for your reply.
I have created the HTML code and set it to refresh every minute for testing purpose. However, each time the HTML file refreshes, it prompts me to sign in to Power BI to view the report, as shown below.
For your information, I am currently using the "Publish to web" (public) option and the iframe link provided.
Have you encountered the same problem? Do I need to include authentication in the code as well?

Hello AinSyahfiqa ,
The Publish to Web option does not require authentication. However, I must emphasize that this option is not secure since the report becomes publicly accessible.
On the other hand, if you're using the Website or Portal option, authentication is required—there is no way to access it without logging in.
To address authentication issues, I use Power BI Report Server and have structured my HTML code accordingly.(This is the for RS PBI https://medium.com/microsoft-power-bi/advanced-automate-web-page-refresh-navigate-pages-in-power-bi-report-server-eba0b1cb34fa)
Kind Regards,
