Issue editing symantec model within the Power BI Service

Hello,

I have a semantic model within the Power BI service and attempting to add some new relationships to it.

I'm receiving the following error when opening the data model within the Power BI Service:

Has anyone else ever experience this issue and if so, how did you resolve it?

Thank you

Hi @PMFlorenzano ,

Thanks for the reply from SaiTejaTalasila , please allow me to provide another insight:

The following scenarios don't support opening the data model for a semantic model in the service:

  • Semantic models that have incremental refresh.
  • Semantic models that have been deployed by a deployment pipeline.
  • Semantic models that haven't yet been upgraded to enhanced metadata format. You can upgrade to enhanced metadata format by opening the corresponding pbix in Desktop and republishing.
  • Semantic models that have automatic aggregations configured.
  • Semantic models that have a live connection.
  • Semantic models migrated from Azure Analysis Services (AAS).
  • Not all semantic models in Pro workspaces are currently supported in UAE North.

More details can be found in the documentation: Edit data models in the Power BI service (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

If your Current Period does not refer to this, please clarify in a follow-up reply.

Hi @PMFlorenzano ,

If your applications are in production I never recommend users to try preview features in our tenant. If it is a custom semantic model you can download your report to desktop and you can check whether it is refreshing the data without any issues or not.

Thanks,

Sai Teja

Hello @SaiTejaTalasila,

I'm not having a refreshing issue and this preview feature is within our development environment.

The issue is with me opening the semantec model editor within the Power BI Service.  As far as I know, Power BI does not have an endpoint available for Visual Studio so I'm unable to edit the semantic model there.

Hi @PMFlorenzano ,

How you created that semantic model?.Is it a default semantic model or custom semantic model?.

Edit semantic model is a preview feature in power bi service I don't think it is fully functional yet.So, you can download your report to power bi desktop and you can open it in power bi desktop and try to refresh it and see whether it is working or is it throwing any errors.

Thanks,

Sai Teja

The model was originally created in Azure Analysis Services and then we migrated the model over to Power BI Premium

I was able to perform the same procedures on a model that I created within Power BI Desktop so I'm wondering if the feature is not available for migrated models yet?
