Issue Downloading Tabular Model After Migrating from AAS to Power BI Premium

Hello everyone,

I need your help because I migrated a tabular cube hosted in AAS to Power BI (Premium capacity). However, when I try to download it, I get the following error message (screenshot attached).

Is there a way to make modifications in Power BI Desktop without going through Visual Studio?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @mbn_2025 I dont think it is possible to do this Power Bi Desktop you would have to go through SSMS or Tabular Editor vvia XMLA endpoint to edit the model In Premium

Hi @mbn_2025,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

I would like to acknowledge the helpful response by @Akash_Varuna. As mentioned, it is not possible to make modifications directly in Power BI Desktop without using Visual Studio. However, you can use alternative tools such as:

  • Tabular Editor tool allows you to connect to the dataset and make modifications without needing Visual Studio. It supports editing models via the XMLA endpoint.
  • You can also use SSMS to connect to the dataset and make changes via the XMLA endpoint.

These tools provide a way to edit the model without relying on Visual Studio, offering flexibility and ease of use.
