Hello. I provide a data service for my company and am looking to take things to the next level for my customers. I have been using Power BI and love the features and looks. After doing some research I came across the ability to create interactive reports either within the organization or in a public space. I know that publishing to a public space is generally frowned upon depending on the data that is being displayed but I had an idea and didn't know if it was possible.
I have about 30 customers currently and would really love them to be able to interact with the reports that I put together for them rather than only creating a PDF document at the end of the year. My question and idea is a follows:
I would create a section on our company website that would specifically be for these customers. Each customer would have their own "page". Could I then publish the corresponding analytics for each customer to their specific page, allow the customer to interact with the reports as they see fit; the idea being the customer WOULD NOT need a Power BI license or need a Microsoft account to access them?
From there we could then create credentials on our site for each customer so their specific data would only be accessible to that specific customer.
I couldn't find sufficient documentation for this scenario and didn't know exactly where to ask this for Microsoft support or the PBI gurus. Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks!
Solved! Go to Solution.
You definitely don't want to use the Publish to Web feature - there is no security at all.
You need to use Embedded. They won't need a license, but they will need an account to log in to provide the security. More at Power BI embedded analytics overview - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
You will be the one paying for the capacity and licensing with an embedded capacity.
DAX is for Analysis. Power Query is for Data Modeling
