IoT Dashboard get data from PLC

Hello,
I want to make a dashboard in which I want to monitor the signals of a PLC. I have seen that for example for a Siemens PLC, there is SIA Connect to integrate the PLC into Azure IoT HUB.

Is it really necessary to have an IoT Gateway to be able to read data from a PLC?

If yes, do you have experience with SIA CONNECT? Is free?

    Hi jdmelendez 

     

    I have looked up some information and it seems that you need an IoT gateway to read data from the PLC. In many cases, using an IoT gateway can provide multiple advantages.


    However, while Sia Connect itself is free, you may still need to purchase the appropriate licenses for full access to all of the features and functionality as you use it.

     

    The following link mentions : "This enables data to be streamed from any of the many supported PLCs, robots, meters etc."
